Ribeira Sacra means sacred river bank, a bad translation made in the XVII century by a monk,the original name was Roboira Sacrata (Sacred Oak Grove). It is located between province of Lugo and the province of Ourense, boasts the greatest concentration of rural Romanesque in Europe as well as its beautiful canyons that will captivate your heart and leave you breathless.
Romans arrived 2000 years ago, looking for gold but as they had very good agricultural techniques, they started to plant vineyards on the best places, where? on the steep slopes of the valleys and canyons of the rivers Miño and Sil. Due to the troubles of cultivation, it is called "heroic viticulture", this land and its privileged climate produces red Mencía, Albarino and white Godello.
During those 4 days, you will discover a wide range of familiar wineries where we taste different wines and will meet owners. Getting involved with locals is one of most important premises when we design tours, moreover we will try local gastronomy well made by local chefs such as local mushrooms, chestnuts, local honey, octopus, bica or its excellent meat.
