Your adventure begins in the city of A Coruña.
A Coruña, the second-largest city in Galicia, is a classic Atlantic coastal city with a beautiful seaside promenade and a charming historic quarter known as Ciudad Vella. As you stroll through its narrow streets, make sure to visit María Pita Square to see the statue of this courageous heroine who helped drive the English out of A Coruña in the 16th century. Don’t miss the Castle of San Antón or the iconic Tower of Hercules, one of the best-preserved Roman lighthouses in the world.
After exploring A Coruña, the first stage of the route begins near San Antón Castle by the port. Leaving the city, you’ll follow the O Burgo estuary, crossing to the other side via its medieval bridge. From here, the path takes you through rural and wooded areas, leading to Sergude in Carral, known for its delicious bread. Shortly after, you’ll come across the Pazo de Sarandós, a charming 16th-century traditional Galician manor. A few more kilometers along forested trails will bring you to the end of this stage at Hospital de Bruma.
The second stage of the English Way from A Coruña is especially charming for pilgrims. Leaving Hospital de Bruma and passing through Ordes, the path winds through beautiful wooded areas that create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. You’ll pass Baixoa on a scenic forest trail, eventually reaching Sigüeiro. This quaint village near Santiago de Compostela has a picturesque medieval bridge over the Tambre River and the nearby Illa do Refuxio recreation area, perfect for unwinding after your walk.
The final stage of the Camino Inglés from A Coruña begins in Sigüeiro, following the charming Calle Real. In the first few kilometers, the route runs closely along the banks of the Tambre River until reaching A Barciela. From there, you’ll head toward the Tambre industrial area, continuing until you arrive in the Meixonfrío neighborhood on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela. As you descend, you’ll have the chance to admire the majestic Convent of Santa Clara, standing gracefully near your final destination, the renowned Plaza del Obradoiro.
