        Stages

Your journey begins in one of Galicia’s most historic towns—Ferrol.

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, Ferrol has a deep connection to the sea and is known for its commercial port and historic shipyards, where both civilian and military ships were constructed.

Beyond its port and shipyards, Ferrol offers beautiful neighborhoods like Ferrol Vello, Barrio de la Magdalena, and Canido, famous for its graffiti and alternative art. Here, you’ll find “Las Meninas,” an open-air gallery with over 400 murals. Interestingly, one wall is reserved for Banksy, who has yet to add his touch to this vibrant neighborhood.

Other must-visit sites in Ferrol include the San Felipe Castle and the San Xulián Co-Cathedral.

This stage is all about enjoyment. Starting in Ferrol, and leaving behind its naval history, you’ll follow the path along the ría (estuary) until you reach Neda.

In Neda, discover its beautiful wetlands and visit the Iglesia de Santa María, home to the Cristo de la Cadena. Continuing past Neda, head toward Fene, and after passing through, you’ll walk through rural and wooded areas leading to your destination, Pontedeume.

Pontedeume, a charming fishing village along the Eume River, has a rich history. Don’t miss the Castillo de los Andrade and the natural park Fragas do Eume, a unique spot with unmatched natural beauty and scenic value.

This second stage begins with a gentle climb to Breamo, where you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Ría de Ares.

Following the coastal route, you’ll pass through Lambre and its medieval bridge, and then enter wooded areas that offer a peaceful, natural landscape. About 5 km from Betanzos, the path descends, offering beautiful views of the Ría de Betanzos and the Mandeo River.

In Betanzos, it’s essential to explore the well-preserved historic center with its impressive medieval gates. Also worth visiting is the Parque del Pasatiempo, built by the García Naveira brothers.

This third stage is the most challenging on the Camino de Santiago Inglés from Ferrol. Departing from Betanzos, after a couple of miles, the path leads into rural areas where time seems to stand still—perfect spots to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Upon reaching A Malata, the highest point of the stage, the route continues through mountain paths until Mesía. From Mesía, only a half-hour walk remains to reach the stage’s endpoint at Hospital de Bruma.

The penultimate stage of the Camino de Santiago Inglés from Ferrol (in 5 stages) begins at Hospital de Bruma and passes through Ordes.

After Ordes, the path follows pleasant wooded areas, perfect for pilgrims, until reaching Baixoa. From Baixoa, you’ll walk along a long stretch that leads directly to Sigüeiro.

Sigüeiro, a charming commuter town of Santiago de Compostela, is worth a visit for its medieval bridge over the Tambre River and the Illa do Refuxio recreational area.

The final stage begins in Sigüeiro on Calle Real, with the first few kilometers running alongside the Tambre River until reaching A Barciela.

From A Barciela, you’ll head toward the Tambre industrial area and then into Meixonfrío in Santiago de Compostela. As you descend, you’ll encounter the beautiful Convent of Santa Clara, marking your proximity to the final goal: the Plaza del Obradoiro.

        Congratulations, goal achieved!
